The New York State Department of Transportation announced on Friday, July 8 that beginning Monday, July 11, westbound traffic on the expressway will be detoured onto the North Service Road from Exit 64 (State Route 112) to Exit 61 (Patchogue-Holbrook Road/Suffolk County Route 19) in the Town of Brookhaven.
The detours are scheduled on weeknights from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. during a pavement resurfacing project.
Additionally, one westbound lane will be closed between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., the DOT noted.
The detours and lane closures are expected to last approximately four weeks, weather permitting.
Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones, the DOT noted, saying that "Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license."
